Legoman Day 6 - UV's Head Fix, Torso, Hips

Work In Progress / 11 March 2020

Legoman UV WIP*

Fixed Head UV's

Camera Projection with Bevels to fix

Easy Toros UV

Selecting the inner seam of the bevel to Cut and Unfold, especially towards the back and bottom of the mode. Thes areas are not viewed as much for the final render. I either have to start over and be really good with the seems or figure a way to integrate the bevel areas to the large surfaces already laid out. I enjoy UV's, just not bevels at the moment.

Tools > Get and Set Will to equalize the Texel density so the square are the same size.

Legoman Day 5 UV's

Work In Progress / 10 March 2020

Legoman Day 5 WIP*

Tools

  • UV Cut and Sew Tool  - Defines areas to cut prior to unfolding.
  • Unfold along U and V axis
  • Move and Sew
  • Straighten UV's

After holding an actual Lego Figure, I realized the arms were all off in the back view. had to make corrections to the file. Mirror and copy and redo the Cleanup to make sure everything was proportional before UVing.

In the past, I typically beveled after UV not before so this is a different way of doing things. Also, the tools in Maya have greatly improved since older versions. I cannot remember my old workflow but it did start with a camera-based UV to get an idea of the different areas.

Back Fixed

Back Before. Too many gaps, disconnected pieces.

Tomorrow is more UV's I know enough to do my own thing, but I will watch more tutorials on the lookout for new tools.

Legoman Day 4 Turn in Model

Work In Progress / 09 March 2020

Legoman. Work in Progress - Kyle Horne

Well This was a long Haul. Yesterday Progress wasn't made as much as I hoped. The Bevel tool creates a ton of extra geometry. There were a lot of Ngons to fix. I managed to turn in on time with 1 minute to spare. (All the requirements met minus some extra auto-generated files. I will work on this outside of the class to 3D print for fun.

Learned:

Extrude Edge Thickness - great for setting up for 3D Printing

Bevel - Set Segments to an even number to match quads. 3 is too much. You also need to select every 90-degree hard edge and connect the selections together. Save before doing this.

Legoman Day 2 Blockout

Work In Progress / 07 March 2020

Legoman Day 2

*Work in Progress.

Finished the Blockout today. Tomorrow will add the detail. I still am having issues with Mirror Geometry tool working. It is adding unnecessary transform nodes in the outliner. I checked on Cut Faces Option to COpy. Next, I separated the other half by, 2x selecting the mirrored object and Mesh > Extract. Again the Circularize tool was very handy (Puns always intended) to link up the wrist to the arm.
